If you receive an error when you try to install the HCL version of the Windows 10 April 2018 update, here are some things to try. This list is not comprehensive and other fixes may work for yours as well. If you are using a non-genuine version of Windows 10, you can remove it completely or reinstall a genuine version. If you are using a Windows 10 version prior to April 2018, you can upgrade to the April 2018 update. Some users have reported success by installing the HCL update on a secondary device and then installing the standard application packages on the primary device.

Check for Updates
If you have not updated in awhile, the update may require a restart to apply it. You may need to reboot after installing updates.
Windows Standalone Installer
If you're installing Windows 10 on a device that is already running Windows 10, use the Windows stand-alone installer instead of the standard application packages.
Installing the HCL Update
If you are installing the HCL update on a device that has a genuine version of Windows 10, you can remove it first. If you are trying to install the HCL update on a device with an old or non-genuine operating system, follow these steps before upgrading your device:
1. In the Microsoft Store app, search for “Windows 10” and then select “Updates” from the left side of the screen.
2. Select “Check for updates” in the bottom right corner of the screen.
3. If there is an available update, select it to install it. If there is no available update, select “Get more info” in the bottom left corner of the screen to learn more about your current operating system release and whether you need to upgrade or not.
Verify that you have the latest Windows update
The latest Windows update is KB4056892. You can check for the update by going to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update.
If you do not have the latest update, reinstall it or upgrade to a genuine version of Windows 10.
